We bought our 2007 Chevrolet Impala 3lt new in February 2007. The car just turned over 50,000 miles. At 38,000, we noticed the passenger seat heating element quit working. Chevy dealer estimates the cost of repairs at about $200. At 48,000 the shifter release switch stopped working, so the shifter could not be moved from the park position.

Once the transmission is removed from the vehicle, contact several transmission repair shops and/or independent transmission technicians to obtain rebuild quotes for a “bench job“. “Bench job” is the term used for a transmission rebuild only, not the labor to remove and install the transmission.
The fix: I was concerned it was a transmission issue but found that by simply replacing the selector switch the problem is solved for $107.00 with a part from Chevy Dealer. I did not attempt to get part over internet so you are on your own if you choose that route. The process is very easy.
