1 Answer to Design Brief (PROCESS SECTION 1):- Chlorine gas and liquid benzene are continuously fed to two parallel CSTR units (both operating at 60°C) with a molar ratio of 0.4 (mols Cl2/C6H6) i.e. the feed compositions for both reactor units are identical.
The reaction mechanism for chlorination of benzene is the same as bromination of benzene. Iron (III) bromide and iron (III) chloride become inactivated if they react with water, including moisture in the air. Therefore, they are generated by adding iron filings to bromine or chlorine.
